Every year we move all the hedgehogs around on Musical Hedgehog day. All the lawn cages are put out and the hedgehogs from Bluebell ward (the shed) are moved into them. Their vacated hutches are thoroughly scrubbed and disinfected and allowed to dry while we have a break the hedgehogs are moved from Primrose ward (the garage) into Bluebell. Their vacated hutches are also scrubbed out thoroughly and disinfected.
That done, if there are any in intensive care that are well enough, they then move out into Primrose ward.
Last year we were able to do all this on March 1st but we have had to hold off until now due to the weather.
We were very lucky and have had a beautiful day. I remember one year when it snowed and sleeted on us. As I borrow someone from Pets at Home and ask volunteers, I have to set a date in advance so the weather is a bit pot luck!
Jaydie was this years' volunteer from Pets at Home and her first job was to look after Woody who has recently lost an eye and runs relentlessly around his cage in the mornings. After his morning cuddle and soothing, he went into his little house and slept all day.
The next job was to take all the outdoor hutches and runs out of storage and set them up on the lawn then make up the nests ready to take the hedgehogs
My lawn as it will look for the next few weeks at least
