10/12/11 This is Mrs Bojangles. She has been cared for by her finder but she actually has ringworm so she has come here.
UPDATE 14/12/11 I think this is another Fluke victim but it took an hour to medicate her tonight and I am not sure if it went in her mouth.
UPDATE 20/12/11 Mrs B went to the Vet today and I have altered details here already - from Mr to Mrs and from Mange to Ringworm. However, this afternoon she was coughing very badly so is being treated for lungworm again!
UPDATE 19/1/12 Behaving in a much more hedgehoggy fashion, trashing her cage nightly so I think she is well now. Have moved her to cooler surroundings hoping she will sleep!
UPDATE 18/8/12 Mrs B hibernated on 3rd May until Aug. Moved her to conservatory last night and she woke, ate and rampaged. Took 2 hrs to find her this morning. Can you spot her?
I ASKED ADVICE RE THE ODD HIBERNATION AND SOMEONE SUGGESTED IT WAS AESTIVATION. This usually happens when the animal is too hot. I moved her to cool her (she wasn't overheating, she was in the shed) and to give more interest should she deign to get out of bed. She is now on the lawn in my plant!
UPDATE 23/8/12 Mrs B left here this morning to stay with my Pembroke Dock foster carer. She will live loose in his walled garden and, hopefully, return to the wild next year.
12/9/12 Mrs B has, sadly, died. She stayed awake, she ate and put on weight then she was found dead in her box. It was too late to have a postmortem as the body needs to be kept chilled. Maybe she had a heart condition as she went so suddenly.
24/9/12 JUST HEARD THAT, WHEN MY CARER WENT TO BURY MRS B, SHE HAD WOKEN UP AND WAS EATING AND HAS BEEN DOING SO EVER SINCE! UNBELIEVABLE!
NEW HEDGEHOGS FOR 2012
1/6/12 Petal has come in from All Pets Vet. (See the clever name link?) We don't really know why she was so hungry and dehydrated but I am treating for lungworm and intestinal worms and she is eating like a horse!
UPDATE 7/6/12 Petal sees the Vet tomorrow as her nasal condition has not improved.
UPDATE 8/6/12 It almost looks as if Petal has a cold but we don't know if hedgehogs do get colds!
UPDATE 19/6/12 Another donated specimen has revealed a fungal infection so new treatment starts today.
UPDATE 31/8/12 At last she is well enough for an x-ray and it looks as if she has an infection in her right upper jaw. Another 2 weeks treatment.
UPDATE 17/12/12 Petal has been on anti biotics of varying types but nothing has really helped. I am now trying to hibernate her in the hopes the bugs will die down and her poor nose gets a rest from the mucus. She has had a few nights sleeping then wakes again. She went to the Vet today to have her toe nails clipped and she was SUCH a different hedgehog. No more the quiet, flat prickled girl, no, prickles up, hissing and spitting and refusing to unroll. It took 20 minutes to unroll her. I think she must be feeling better. She has also eaten all the extras in her food like biscuits, seeds and dry meal worms. These are usually scattered around and left. Medication has been stopped due to the sleep pattern and slowing of the metabolism.
UPDATE 25/4/13 Petal is awake, has found a pashion for banana and is not too sneezy at the moment.
